HERE IS WHAT A FRIEND HAS WRITTEN
ABOUT ME TO PROMOTE MY MUSIC JOURNALISM WORK:
*
*
“Alexandra McLoughlin is a 19 year old Student/Music Journalist currently studying a BA Hons in Media and Communications.
She was born in the UK and went to an all girls boarding school at an early age after which she did her GCSEs at a Catholic Secondary school before moving on to Central Sussex College where she completed a 2 years BTEC course in Media Production.
Alexandra plays 4 musical instruments and she has an immense passion for music which is the main reason why she decided to self start a career in Music Journalism from a very young age. When Alexandra reached 16 she was already interviewing and taking photos of her favourite rock bands.
She is a very ambitious girl and even now at the age of 19 she has already completed a period of work experience at Bliss and NME Magazines, written for several publications, has won the Runner-up 2008 Learner of the Year Award for Sussex as part of the FE Sussex Spring Awards sponsored by Edexcel and also won the Scamp Award for The Most Promising Journalist 2008 which was sponsored by the Central Sussex College.
She has recently completed her last year studying the BTEC National Diploma in Media Production and gained (Distinction/Distinction/Merit) plus Merit in Photography and 1 As in Film Studies.
Alexandra was hand-selected by Edexcel in 2008 and in 2009 to attend the launch of VQ Day at the House of Commons together with four other successful students from across the Country. She also attended the actual celebration of the VQ Day during a cocktail party at the Royal Opera House on the 23rd July 2008 which was hosted by Singer and Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon.
“Through her BTEC course, Alex was able to apply for a NUJ (National Union of Journalists) membership which allowed her to attend and report on various events including the Chelsea Player of the Year Awards, the Indy Music Awards, The Travel Destination Show, a press pass and backstage access to the entire duration of the Glastonbury Festival 2007 and 2008
also The Great Escape Festival 2008 in Brighton plus many other events.
“At the moment Alexandra contributes to various websites, magazines and blogs including her own websites: Here ia a list of some of them: Wired Radio, Europunk, Creature Mag, Scoop Magazine, Hot Fudge Mag, LastFm, Sputnikmusic, The Telegraph, NME Blog/Video and MTV Blog and she is also part of the editorial team for the Sussex Student Network website.
“Finally she has just been giving a slot to host her own show at WIRED RADIO (which is a popular radio station at Goldsmiths University of Lodon). Her show is called ” Don’t Get Me Let Me” and it is broadcast online every Saturday from 1.00 to 2.00 PM. In her show she invites bands to come in for a chat on the studio and she plays some their music and a selection of her own choice. Tune in every Sat on www.wiredradio.co.uk
“Apart from her radio show, she is also interviewing bands and taking photos for the WIRED RADIO website.
Alexandra enjoys interviewing bands and taking pictures of everything especially live acts and to enhance her career as a young Music Journalist she tries to get involved as much as possible with the media by arranging most of the interviews and photopasses herself.
“During the past years, Alexandra met many people from the press and music industry and as well as taking photographs and interviewing bands, Alex also writes articles and reviews on record labels, albums, bands, venues, music in general, gigs, books and movies as she hopes to get plenty experience in the Media and she does all this work on a voluntary basis and unpaid.
“Alexandra also broadcasts all her audio/video interviews on youtube. You can view some of her stuff on this youtube page
